Whaddon Hall - Ingram Murray

12 JUN
Whaddon Hall, near Bletchley, was the war time headquarters of Section VIII — the Radio Communications Service of the Secret Intelligence Service. Under the charismatic leadership of Brigadier "Pop" Gambier-Parry, Whaddon grew rapidly to provide communications for the intelligence service, including Bletchley Park worldwide. Whaddon also provided the communications for the Special Operations Executive until that body formed its own signal service and for the Political Warfare Executive, the propaganda organisation. Section VIII was also responsible for communications security. Whaddon's customers included SIS Stations overseas, agents and Embassies and military commands overseas.
