The award-winning Kettering Museum and Art Gallery is probably the only place in the world that you’ll find exhibits on the history of shoemaking and a mummified cat under one roof! In this particular case, the cat was found in a Kettering attic. It was once custom to place a dead cat in the walls or attic of a newly built house, in the hope that it would ward off evil spirits!
Aside from cats… the Museum covers the history of the Borough of Kettering and holds an array of unique and fascinating objects. There’s a strong focus on celebrating local artists including Sir Alfred East, T. C. Gotch and many others. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, during the year a programme of local artists and touring collections are shown. Look out for regular events too.
